Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

“Lex”, “we” and “us” mean metaisle Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Los Angeles, California, USA. This policy covers the Lex application at app.discoverylex.com and this website.

Firm content — the documents, email, chats and drafts a law firm puts into Lex or that Lex produces or collects for it — is handled on the firm’s behalf, as its service provider, under our Data Processing Addendum. If you are named in a firm’s file, contact the firm; we will help it respond. For account information about the people who use Lex, we are responsible ourselves.

2. What we collect

• Account information: your email address, your firm’s name, sign-in identifiers, and your seat type.
• Billing information: for a firm that subscribes, its billing email, seat count and subscription status. Card details are entered on Stripe’s pages; we never see them.
• Firm content: files you upload, import or collect; your conversations with Lex; and what Lex produces.
• Usage records: which AI requests were made, when, and at what cost — without their content — for limits, billing and fixing faults.
• Diagnostic records: to investigate a fault, we may keep a copy of requests in a particular chat, including content, for up to 14 days.
• Feedback you send us, and whether our invitation and announcement emails were opened.

We use no analytics, advertising or session-recording tools, and we do not log IP addresses.

3. How we use it

To provide and support Lex, keep each firm’s material separate, bill, prevent abuse, and tell you about the service. We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use firm content to train AI models.

4. Who we share it with

Lex works by sending relevant parts of your file and your instructions to AI models run by the companies below, under business terms that bar them from training on it. We share information only with these companies, only for their job, and otherwise only as the law compels.

If metaisle Inc. is merged or acquired, the information we hold would pass to the successor under terms no less protective than these.

5. Accounts and systems you connect

Connecting is always your choice, and you can disconnect at any time.

• Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook: Lex reads incoming mail, leaves unsent drafts and adds calendar entries. It does not send mail from your mailbox.
• Google Drive, Dropbox: Lex reads what you choose to import, and saves files to Dropbox when you ask.
• An organization’s Microsoft 365: a firm can collect evidence from it after the organization’s administrator approves. Lex only reads. See our Microsoft 365 Collection Terms.

Lex’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use data from your Google account to train generalized AI models or for advertising, and no person at Lex reads it except with your permission, for security purposes, or as the law requires.

6. Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies. The application uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in; Stripe sets its own when you pay. Our invitation and announcement emails record whether they were opened or clicked, and every announcement has an unsubscribe link.

7. How long we keep it

• Firm content is kept until the firm deletes it or its agreement ends.
• What you delete stays in Trash for 30 days, then is permanently deleted.
• Mail from a connected mailbox is deleted when you disconnect it, and otherwise after Lex is done with it.
• Backups are kept for up to about 60 days.
• Billing and usage records are kept as long as we need them for billing, security and the law.

8. Security

Traffic to and from Lex is encrypted in transit, each firm’s material is kept separate from every other firm’s, sign-in supports single sign-on, staff access is limited, and our off-site backups are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

9. Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your account information by writing to us. You can delete firm content in Lex, disconnect connected accounts, and unsubscribe from announcements. California residents have the right to know, correct and delete personal information and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

10. Children, location, changes

Lex is for legal professionals and is not directed to anyone under 18. Lex is operated from the United States; the backup copy is kept in Germany and Mistral AI processes PDFs in France. When we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
